Its a long way to heaven (part 1)

I will keep this as short as possible. I have no energy left to write a full post. Not a whole lot of pics either. Here’s why…

This is the first leg of the two part longest route of the trip. We woke up at five in the morning to catch the Chicken Bus to Roatan. We caught the bus at six o clock and for the rest of the day up until three in the afternoon we travelled. Halfway through the route we had one, half an hour stop to switch busses, have a quick snack and use the toilet. At three we finally saw the Atlantic. We were excited that the trip with the bus had ended but little did we know that the worst was yet to come. We boarded the ferry at four thirty for a one and a half hours of crossing a narrow gap between mainland Honduras and Roatan.

That hour and a half was the worst experience of the trip and the longest part of the day. With winds gushing at 35-45 km/h and rain pouring from the sky i was sure it would be a not-so-pleasant ride. That and the fact that a member of the ferry crew stood in front of us with napkins sick-bags and a couple of big bins. Nausea didn’t take long to hit. My wife was the first to go with the rest if the ship following.

I’ll spare the details and fast forward to the end. After a cleansing trip, we arrived at a soaked island that didn’t resemble the paradise i had in mind. With wobbly legs still shaking from the trip we boarded a small bus and headed towards the hotel.
More to follow…
